Late October Weekend Plans
The last weekend of October is here, it has been raining all week and a cold front finally moved in on Friday. I did my absolute best to get today off so I could get the most out of the weekend, but with the rain all week we couldn’t get the blacktop paved that we wanted to. This time of the year is always the last push for work to get everything done before the freeze and next week it is in the 20’s at night and high 30’s during the day. Saturday and Sunday are going to be such good days to be out chasing whitetail, and I’m STOKED.
I’ve been doing a lot of homework and observing cell cams the last two weeks. I took a gamble and hung a camera on a small property last weekend and was surprised to get a few buck pictures. This is where I want to get in this week, I want to dive in close to the bedding and ground and pound. I’m starting to see scrapes heating up, so if I find one on this property that’s where I am going to start, but I want to take advantage of being on the ground and throw some rattling into the mix and try to mimic the grass and everything making noise while I do it. I haven’t had much luck rattling in the past and I don’t know if its me, or if I haven’t been patient enough in the past, but I’m hoping this actually see it work this weekend.
I have been really trying to get some footage, I got a lot of goose hunting footage to go over, but this weekend its all about the deer, even with the brutal cold and snow up in Canada pushing the birds out. The self filming thing is a ton of work, I went with a fourth arrow camera arm, and its got some weight to it that I don’t love to pack in, but it is rock solid, and I am so excited about the quality it brings to the videos. I also bought a stake that can be adjusted higher and lower for the ground hunting this weekend, I was going to just use my tree arm and put it on a tree and hunt close to the tree, but I want to be as mobile as I can this weekend, throwing grunts out as I move around and I don’t want to miss out getting some footage because I’m bouncing around everywhere. It might not work out as good as I’m imagining, but I am fucking pumped to say the least. I hope I’m back on here Sunday night telling the story about how I got it done on a Wisconsin whitetail, thanks for reading guys!
